<br />(~ !) <br />{.." f..-." <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 13, 1976 <br /> <br />In connection with Council's annual tour of streets, conducted the afternoon <br /> <br />of July 13, 1976, and its review of petitions on file for curb-and-gutter <br /> <br />and/or sidewalk construction, Council approved (1) an extension of the current <br /> <br />Roundabout Road project, said extension consisting of 3,866 additional feet of <br /> <br />curb-and-gutter; (2) the constructing of a sidewalk along Liberty Street to <br /> <br />Commonwealth Boulevard, for some 420 feet; and (3) the improving and/or <br /> <br />reconstructing of the north side of Church Street, for some 250 feet, <br /> <br />adjacent to the current CBD project (parking lot development). <br /> <br />Assistant City Manager-Public Works Director George W. Brown reported to <br /> <br />Council that, as a result of his conference on June 15, 1976 with <br /> <br />representatives of the Henry County Board of Supervisors and the Virginia <br /> <br />Department of Highways & Transportation, it is now recommended jointly by <br /> <br />those participating in said conference that Spruce Street, from the terminus <br /> <br />of existing curb-and-gutter near Prospect Hill Drive to the City's east <br /> <br />corporate limits near Mulberry Creek, be reconstructed (with a portion to be <br /> <br />relocated) to accommodate traffic needs, with the City to bear 15% of the <br /> <br />cost thereof for those portions of Spruce Street within the City's corporate <br /> <br />limits. After some discussion, and upon motion (duly seconded and unanimously <br /> <br />carried), Council adopted the following resolution requesting the Virginia <br /> <br />Department of Highways & Transportation to establish said project within the <br /> <br />City's corporate limits, the City agreeing further to the terms and conditions <br /> <br />hereinafter set forth in said resolution: <br />
