<br />\---, <br /> <br />'l.- <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 10, 1975 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, prior to July 1, 1973, Virginia State law provided that <br />the salaries of all judges, associate judges, substitute judges, <br />clerks, deputy clerks, clerical assistants and bailiffs of the <br />Martinsville Municipal Court be fixed and paid by the governing <br />body of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, and that all fees charged <br />and collected by said judges and clerks be paid into the City <br />Treasury; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City never paid the foregoing salaries but <br />nevertheless kept the foregoing fees; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, with the formation of the General District Court and <br />Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court of the City of <br />Martinsville on July 1, 1973, Virginia State law provided <br />that all fees collected by the judge, substitute judge, clerk, <br />and other employees of said Court be paid to the City Treasury, <br />but required the City to pay to the State Treasury the same <br />amount previously paid by the City for salaries to the judges, <br />clerks and other officers or employees of the Martinsville <br />Municipal Court between July 1, 1972 to June 30, 1973; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in contravention of said State law, no such salaries <br />were paid by the City during that period; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session held on the 10th day of June, <br />1975 that, commencing on October 1, 1975, and thereafter, <br />the State of Virginia shall continue to pay all of the <br />foregoing salaries (except supplemental salaries of judges <br />as authorized by Section 16.1-69.47 of the 1950 Code of <br />Virginia, as amended); and, <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that all fees collected by <br />the judge, substitute judge, clerk or employees, but not <br />including fees belonging to officers other than the judge, <br />clerk or employees, of the General District Court or Juvenile <br />and Domestic Relations District Court of the City of Martinsville <br />shall be paid promptly to the Clerk of the Circuit Court of <br />the City of Martinsville who shall pay the same into the State <br />Treasury. <br /> <br />Mr. Robert N. Crockett, 1007 Mountain Road, suggested that Council's forthcoming <br /> <br />June 19th public hearing on the proposed 1975-76 City Budget be conducted in the <br /> <br />Circuit Courtroom of City Hall. <br /> <br />--------_._._-~_.-----._._.---~_._-.._-------,------------ <br />
