C"') o TUESDAY MAY 27, 1975 ,- Street and for some 530 feet along the west side of Starling Avenue from Cleveland Avenue to Hairston Street, these projects to be included in the current 1974-75 program. Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following resolution (to apply for Federal Flood Insurance) and the following ordinance /- (constituting an approved plan for building permit review in connection with Federal Flood Insurance): WHEREAS, certain areas of the City of Martinsville, Virginia are subject to periodic flooding from major streams and tributaries causing serious damages to residential properties within these areas; and WHEREAS, relief is available in the form of flood insurance as authorized by the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, and as amended; and WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia to comply with land-use and management-criteria regulations as required in said Act; and WHEREAS, it is also the intent of said Council to recognize and duly evaluate flood and/or mudslide hazards in all official actions relating to land-use in the flood plain and/or mudslide areas having special flood and/or mudslide hazards; and ,- WHEREAS, Section 15.1-510 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA, 1950 (and as amended), authorizes said Council to adopt land-use and control measures; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this twenty-seventh day of May, 1975, that it doth hereby assure the Federal Insurance Administration that it has hereby taken the following legislative action: (1) Appointed the Director of Public Works of the City of Martinsville, Virginia with the overall responsibility, authority and means to implement all commitments made herein. -
