<br />C"') <br />o <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 27, 1975 <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Street and for some 530 feet along the west side of Starling Avenue from Cleveland <br /> <br />Avenue to Hairston Street, these projects to be included in the current 1974-75 <br /> <br />program. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following <br /> <br />resolution (to apply for Federal Flood Insurance) and the following ordinance <br /> <br />/- <br /> <br />(constituting an approved plan for building permit review in connection with <br /> <br />Federal Flood Insurance): <br /> <br />WHEREAS, certain areas of the City of Martinsville, Virginia are <br />subject to periodic flooding from major streams and tributaries <br />causing serious damages to residential properties within these <br />areas; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, relief is available in the form of flood insurance as <br />authorized by the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, and as <br />amended; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia to comply with land-use and management-criteria regulations <br />as required in said Act; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is also the intent of said Council to recognize and duly <br />evaluate flood and/or mudslide hazards in all official actions <br />relating to land-use in the flood plain and/or mudslide areas having <br />special flood and/or mudslide hazards; and <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 15.1-510 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA, 1950 (and as <br />amended), authorizes said Council to adopt land-use and control <br />measures; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-seventh day of May, 1975, <br />that it doth hereby assure the Federal Insurance Administration <br />that it has hereby taken the following legislative action: <br /> <br />(1) Appointed the Director of Public Works of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia with the overall responsibility, <br />authority and means to implement all commitments made <br />herein. <br /> <br />- <br />
