'J>
V

TUESDAY

MAY 27, 1975

responsibility to speak publicly on local issues as they concern the City

government, not only did his speech avoid any personal issues but also, as

reported by the Martinsville Bulletin, was reportorially distorted, a fact to

which this newspaper has subsequently admitted.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing

on a request by Bennett & Wilson, Inc., Realtors, as filed by petitioner under

date of March 6, 1975 and approved by the Planning Commission on April 17, 1975,

seeking the rezoning of its property at 814 Starling Avenue from "R-6 Residential"

to "P-2 Professional". There being no objections to this rezoning registered by

anyone, Council approved said request and effected same through the following

ordinance amending the City's Zoning Map:

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled this twenty-seventh day of May, 1975,
that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be, and is hereby,
amended to effect a "P-2 Professional" zoning classification for
that property identified as "814 Starling Avenue" and owned by
Bennett & Wilson, Inc., Realtors.

Pursuant to Council's suggestion from its meeting of May 6, 1975, representatives

of the Seventh Day Adventist Church filed a written statement requesting usage

-'-

of City-owned property at or near Community Park (on Swanson Street) for the

purpose of conducting a religious service (Le., "tent revival") for one week

during the forthcoming month of July, which written statement constituted a

letter of agreement, including a "save harmless" clause required by the City.

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized usage

of this property by this group for the purpose stated and under the conditions

agreed to, including a rental fee of $24.75 per week.
