<br />1 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 22, 1975 <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />appeared before Council and described a project identified as "CROP Walk", being <br /> <br />a fifteen-mile walk by any and all citizens on Saturday, May 3, 1975 for the <br /> <br />purpose of raising funds, through sponsors of individual "walkers", to provide food <br /> <br /> <br />for the needy and hungry, indicating that.e:veryd611ar ::conttibuted will provide <br /> <br />$8.50 for food for delivery anywhere in the world. Council unanimously went on <br /> <br /> <br />record as endorsing and being in support of this project. <br /> <br />Pursuant to the voluntary offer of Mrs. J. W. (Sallie M.) Clark, Council <br /> <br />unanimously authorized her to act as a charitable organization under the terms <br /> <br /> <br />of Section 57-48 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), under the style <br /> <br /> <br />of "City Beautiful", for the purpose of soliciting and receiving contributions <br /> <br /> <br />for the beautification of Martinsville. Council also agreed that the City will <br /> <br />provide the bookkeeping services necessary to this project. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and recommendation, <br /> <br />an application for a Special-Use Permit, as filed by Mr. Glen D. Powell, Jr., to <br /> <br />allow applicant to construct a ten-unit apartment building on or adjacent to Smith <br /> <br />Lake Road, on a tract identified as "Parcel B" as shown on plot plan dated April 16, <br /> <br />1975. <br /> <br />.,- <br /> <br />Vie-Mayor Hobson, noting that school students will soon be out of school for the <br /> <br />1975 summer, and in commending the City's Recreation Department for its past summer <br /> <br />programs, suggested that additional supervision and greater usage of the City's <br /> <br />recreational facilities be provided during the forthcoming summer. <br />
