<br />f' ~~ <br />(.J~ 'i,.J <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 9, 198Q <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor Barry A. Greene presiding, was held Tuesday, September, <br /> <br />9, 1980, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Barry A. Greene, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />L. D. Oakes; Henry C. Reed; and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held August 26, 1980, and of its special meeting held August 28, 1980. <br /> <br />Council unanimously referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration <br /> <br />and recommendations, the following two property rezoning petitions, filed on <br /> <br />behalf of petitioners by Mr. Benjamin R. Gardner, Attorney at Law: <br />to "P-2" <br />(1) from "R-6"/that certain property located at 407 East Church <br />Street and owned by John S. and Joan M. Dickinson; and <br /> <br />(2) from "C-1" to "M-1" those certain parcels, identified as "I" <br />and "2", situated on the west side of State Route 108 near the <br />City's north corporate limits, and owned by James E. Bryant. <br /> <br />Mr. Frank L. Draper, President of The Exchange Club of Martinsville (and, also, a <br /> <br />Captain and Inspector with the City's Fire Department), presented to the City a <br /> <br />check representing a donation from The Exchange Club in the amount of $5,400.00, <br /> <br />to be used for the purchase of equipment for a "mini-park" to be developed in an <br /> <br />area adjacent to Clift Street, between Carol and Cole Streets. In accepting this <br /> <br />donation with appreciation, Council commended the Club and its members for their <br /> <br />continuing interest in, and support of, projects which provide and enhance <br /> <br />recreational facilities for the City's young people. <br /> <br />Council referred to City Manager Edmonds, for study and recommendations to be <br /> <br />submitted at Council's forthcoming September 23rd meeting, a request filed by <br /> <br />Mr. Stephen H. Knight, of 119 Ramble Road, Collinsville, Virginia, seeking revisions <br />
