<br />l'" ./. <br /> <br />j.\ ~.l <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 22, 1980 <br /> <br />-. <br /> <br />minutes by insert, as is a letter from Sale Knitting Company on the possible effect of <br /> <br />increased water-sewer rates upon that firm's operations in Martinsville, Council unanimously <br /> <br />adopted the following ordinance effecting (as of August 1, 1980) said proposed water-sewer <br /> <br />rate increases, with the understanding that the water-sewer system needs and the rates <br /> <br />necessary to support those needs will be monitored regularly: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsvil1e, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-second day of July, 1980, <br />that the water and sewer user charge to be levied against users (both <br />within and without the corporate limits of the City of Martinsville) <br />of the City's water and sewer utility system, pursuant to Section <br />17-20 of the Code of the City of Martinsville (1971, and as amended), <br />shall be as follows: <br /> <br />1. DEFINITIONS: <br /> <br />A. Sewage or wastewater shall mean the waste from humans, <br />animals, and/or households when discharged into public <br />or private drains, and may include groundwater <br />infiltration, surface inflow and/or industrial wastes. <br /> <br />B. Normal sewage or wastewater shall mean waste having <br />less than 300 mg/l of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) <br />and Suspended Solids (SS), having less than 10 mg/l <br />of Chlorine requirement and having no toxic materials <br />or heavy metals. <br /> <br />C. Quantity of flow of sewage or wastewater shall be the <br />total discharge of waste and shall be considered equal <br />to 100% of the metered water usage. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />SCHEDULE OF SEWER USER CHARGE <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The rate for the quantity of normal sewage or wastewater <br />discharged into the City's sewer system shall be sixty-five <br />(65~) cents per 1,000 gallons of metered water usage per <br />month; and the minimum sewerage or user charge shall be <br />two dollars and sixty cents ($2.60) per month per <br />customer. <br /> <br />3. SCHEDULE OF WATER USER CHARGE <br /> ("Inside") ("Outside") <br /> First 4,000 gallons per month $3.50 (Minimum) $7.00 (Minimum) <br /> Next 2,000 gallons per month .70 per M 1.40 per M <br /> Next 100,000 gallons per month .64 per M 1.28 per M <br /> Next 100,000 gallons per month .53 per M 1.06 per M <br /> Next 100,000 gallons per month .46 per M .92 per M <br /> Over 306,000 gallons per month .35 per M .70 per M <br />
