,'r Q " ;,: ,:j () TUESDAY JULY 1, 1980 Pursuant to Section 5(a) of Chapter 2 of the Charter of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, as amended, an organizational mee~ing of the Council of the City of Martinsville was held Tuesday, July 1, 1980, beginning at 9:00 A.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, with Mr. Jesse D. Clift, Clerk of Martinsville City Circuit Court, presiding. All members of Council, as constituted July 1, 1980, were present, viz., Messrs. William C. Cole, Jr., Barry A. Greene, L. D. Oakes, Henry C. Reed, and Francis T. West. After the invocation by Rabbi Harold Friedman, of Ohev Zion Snyagogue, Mr. Clift administered oaths of office to Messrs. Oakes, Reed, and West, who were duly elected or re-elected to membership on City Council at the councilmanic election held May 6, 1980, for four-year terms beginning July 1, 1980. Mr. Clift then entertained nominations from the councilmen for the position of Mayor for a two-year term beginning July 1, 1980, with Councilman Greene being nominated by Councilman Reed and with Councilman West being nominated by Councilman Oakes. There being no other nominations, Mr. Clift called for the votes, which were as follows: For Councilman Greene Councilmen Reed, Cole, and Greene; and For Councilman West - Councilmen Oakes and West. Councilman Greene was declared Mayor for the aforesaid term, with Councilman West moving--and all other members concurring--that the election of Councilman Greene as Mayor be declared unanimous. Mayor Greene then subscribed to the required oath of office, as administered by Mr. Clift. At Mayor Greene's request, Mr. Clift continued as presiding officer for the receiving of nominations for the position of Vice Mayor for a two-year term beginning July 1, 1980, with Mayor Greene nominating Councilman Cole and with
