<br />,'r Q <br />" ;,: ,:j () <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 1, 1980 <br /> <br />Pursuant to Section 5(a) of Chapter 2 of the Charter of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, as amended, an organizational mee~ing of the Council of the City of <br /> <br />Martinsville was held Tuesday, July 1, 1980, beginning at 9:00 A.M., in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, with Mr. Jesse D. Clift, Clerk of Martinsville City <br /> <br />Circuit Court, presiding. All members of Council, as constituted July 1, 1980, <br /> <br />were present, viz., Messrs. William C. Cole, Jr., Barry A. Greene, L. D. Oakes, <br /> <br />Henry C. Reed, and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation by Rabbi Harold Friedman, of Ohev Zion Snyagogue, Mr. Clift <br /> <br />administered oaths of office to Messrs. Oakes, Reed, and West, who were duly <br /> <br />elected or re-elected to membership on City Council at the councilmanic election <br /> <br />held May 6, 1980, for four-year terms beginning July 1, 1980. <br /> <br />Mr. Clift then entertained nominations from the councilmen for the position of <br /> <br />Mayor for a two-year term beginning July 1, 1980, with Councilman Greene being <br /> <br />nominated by Councilman Reed and with Councilman West being nominated by <br /> <br />Councilman Oakes. There being no other nominations, Mr. Clift called for the <br /> <br />votes, which were as follows: <br /> <br />For Councilman Greene Councilmen Reed, Cole, and Greene; and <br /> <br />For Councilman West - Councilmen Oakes and West. <br /> <br />Councilman Greene was declared Mayor for the aforesaid term, with Councilman West <br /> <br />moving--and all other members concurring--that the election of Councilman Greene <br /> <br />as Mayor be declared unanimous. Mayor Greene then subscribed to the required <br /> <br />oath of office, as administered by Mr. Clift. <br /> <br />At Mayor Greene's request, Mr. Clift continued as presiding officer for the <br /> <br />receiving of nominations for the position of Vice Mayor for a two-year term <br /> <br />beginning July 1, 1980, with Mayor Greene nominating Councilman Cole and with <br />
