<br />376 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 27, 1980 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, May 27, 1980, <br /> <br />in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being <br /> <br />present, viz., William D. Hobson, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice-Mayor; <br /> <br />Barry A. Greene; L. D. Oakes; and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its <br /> <br />special meeting held May 12, 1980 and of its regular meeting held May 13, 1980. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br /> <br />the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company's application for a Special-Use Permit <br /> <br />(filed with Council on April 8, 1980), to allow applicant to sponsor and conduct <br /> <br />its 1980 Firemen's Bazaar at Liberty Heights Fairgrounds during the period <br /> <br />June 25, 1980 to July 6, 1980, inclusive. There being no objections registered <br /> <br />by anyone to this application and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's <br /> <br />recommendation that same be approved, Council directed the issuance of the <br /> <br />Special-Use Permit with conditions attached thereto as were in force for the <br /> <br />1979 Bazaar Permit. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on the Martinsville Athletic Club's property rezoning petition (filed April 8, <br /> <br />1980) seeking a "C-3 Commercial" zoning of two tracts of land situated along <br /> <br />Commonwealth Boulevard. There being no objections registered by anyone to the <br /> <br />petition and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that the <br /> <br />requested rezoning be effected, as well as adjacent areas also be so rezoned, <br />
