376

TUESDAY

MAY 27, 1980

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, May 27, 1980,

in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being

present, viz., William D. Hobson, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice-Mayor;

Barry A. Greene; L. D. Oakes; and Francis T. West.

After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its

special meeting held May 12, 1980 and of its regular meeting held May 13, 1980.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on

the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company's application for a Special-Use Permit

(filed with Council on April 8, 1980), to allow applicant to sponsor and conduct

its 1980 Firemen's Bazaar at Liberty Heights Fairgrounds during the period

June 25, 1980 to July 6, 1980, inclusive. There being no objections registered

by anyone to this application and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's

recommendation that same be approved, Council directed the issuance of the

Special-Use Permit with conditions attached thereto as were in force for the

1979 Bazaar Permit.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing

on the Martinsville Athletic Club's property rezoning petition (filed April 8,

1980) seeking a "C-3 Commercial" zoning of two tracts of land situated along

Commonwealth Boulevard. There being no objections registered by anyone to the

petition and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that the

requested rezoning be effected, as well as adjacent areas also be so rezoned,
