After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held

February 26, 1980.

Before beginning its regular order of business, Council recognized and congratulated the

members and coaches of the Martinsville Senior High School Boys Basketball Team, all of whom

were present, upon winning the 1979-80 Virginia State Group AA Basketball Championship and,

furthermore, unanimously adopted the following resolution in recognition and honor of this team

and its coaches:

WHEREAS, the Boys Basketball Team of Martinsville Senior High School,
having completed a most successful 1979-80 regular schedule of basketball
games and having subsequently advanced through regional play-offs, on
Saturday, March 8, 1980, won the State Class AA High School Championship;
and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of this team, both during its regular season
of play and during the championship play-off games, culminating in bringing
to Martinsville Senior High School a sixth State Championship, have brought
honor and distinction not only to the team, its coaches and school but also
to Martinsville and its citizens; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, in regular
meeting held this eleventh day of March, 1980, that it hereby extends its
heartiest congratulations to this team, its coaches and its supporters as
well as, with justifiable pride, celebrates with them, on this special
occasion of recognition, their outstanding achievement.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on an application

for a Special-Use Permit, as recently filed by the Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus, which would

allow applicant to present its circus at Liberty Heights Fairgrounds on April 28th and 29th, 1980.
