(~.

, .~. hd

FEBRUARY 26, 1980

TUESDAY

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,

with Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, February 26, 1980, in the

Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz.,

William D. Hobson, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice-Mayor; Barry A. Greene;

L. D. Oakes; and Francis T. West.

After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting

held February 12, 1980.

In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's report and recommendation regarding

the City's recent application filed for a Special-Use Permit, to allow for the construction

of a ground-level water storage reservoir on the southwest side of Morgan Street, Council

called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted thereon at Council's forthcoming

March 25th meeting.

Council continued to its forthcoming March 11th meeting, for further consideration and/or

decision, the question of whether to file a final application for a grant of $600,000.00

to finance the cost of rehabilitating substandard houses in certain areas of the City.

Council unanimously appointed Mr. Robert C. ("Husky") Hall and Mr. Irving R. McGhee to

membership on the Martinsville Transportation Safety Commission, Mr. Hall being a

member-representative from the City's Public School System and replacing Mr. William F.

Murphy (formerly of the School System); and Mr. McGhee, retired Traffic & Planning

Director, as a citizen member.
