,", 1
' {
> ""'; -

TUESDAY
,

!EBRUARY 12, 1980

Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and

recommendation, a petition filed by Mr. Ryland Richardson seeking a commercial

zoning of petitioner's property, consisting of 3.73 acres and situated at 721~

Stultz Road.

Council acknowledged receipt of a memorandum report (dated February 8, 1980,

to City Manager Noland) from Electric Department Director Robert I. Corekin,

summarizing the scope of studies begun by Mr. Corekin in 1973 toward developing

power supplies for the City as well as certain planned future studies toward

this end. Mr. Corekin also reported that on January 24, 1980, two days after

Council authorized the engineering firm of R. W. Beck & Associates to evaluate

the City's existing hydro-electric facility, the 1,000 KW generator in said

facility failed, apparently from age and metal fatigue, Mr. Corekin reported,

further, that said engineering firm is presently examining this generator to

determine whether it can be economically repaired and placed back in service,

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried (by a recorded vote), Council

convened into an Executive Session for the purposes of considering (a) the

possible sale of a tract of City-owned property and (b) a personnel matter, all

pursuant to Sections 2.1-344(2) and 2.1-344(1), respectively, of the CODE OF

VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended). Upon reconvening into its regular session,

Council (upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried) authorized the sale

of .348 acre of land in the City's Industrial Park to Frith Construction Company

for the sum of $5,100.00, it being determined that this parcel, presently adjoining

Frith Construction Company's property, because of its terrain, would serve no use-

ful purpose in its present condition and would be improved upon by Frith Construction

Company.

Council was adjourned.

w, H.P~~:Jn.in~ Clerk of Council
