<br />:; 2 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 23, 1979 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, October 23, <br /> <br />1979, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., William D. Hobson, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />Barry A. Greene; L. D, Oakes$ and Francis T, West. <br /> <br />After the invocation 1 Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held October 9, 1979, and of its special meeting held October 15, 1979. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br /> <br />a petition filed (August 14, 1979) jointly by Ms. Mary V. Cummings and Mrs. Louise <br /> <br />R. Noble seeking the closing and abandoning of a forty-foot street space situated <br /> <br />between petitionerst properties on the east side of Oakdale Street and extending <br /> <br />eastward to a twenty-five foot alley adjacent to the J. Frank Wilson Memorial Park. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission having recommended that the petition be granted and there <br /> <br />being no objections registered by any citizens thereto, Council unanimously adopted <br /> <br />the following ordinance amending the City Plan and effecting the requested closing <br /> <br />and abandonment: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled, pursuant to Section 3 of Chapter 8 of the <br />Charter of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, and subject to the provisions <br />of Section 15.1-483 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), that a <br />certain street space, being forty feet in width, situated between Lot No. 10 <br />(owned by Louise R. Ross) and Lot No. 11 (owned by Mary V. L. Cummings), as <br />shown on subsection "Double Circle 6" of Section 34 of the Tax Map of the <br />City of Martinsville, Virginia, and extending from the right-of-way of the <br />east side of Oakdale Street eastward to a twenty-five foot alley adjacent and <br />parallel to the western boundary of the J. Frank Wilson Memorial Park (i.e., <br />"City Park"), is hereby closed, vacated and abandoned. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this <br />ordinance shall be in force from date of adoption. <br />
