:; 2 TUESDAY OCTOBER 23, 1979 The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, October 23, 1979, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., William D. Hobson, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; Barry A. Greene; L. D, Oakes$ and Francis T, West. After the invocation 1 Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held October 9, 1979, and of its special meeting held October 15, 1979. Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a petition filed (August 14, 1979) jointly by Ms. Mary V. Cummings and Mrs. Louise R. Noble seeking the closing and abandoning of a forty-foot street space situated between petitionerst properties on the east side of Oakdale Street and extending eastward to a twenty-five foot alley adjacent to the J. Frank Wilson Memorial Park. The Planning Commission having recommended that the petition be granted and there being no objections registered by any citizens thereto, Council unanimously adopted the following ordinance amending the City Plan and effecting the requested closing and abandonment: BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled, pursuant to Section 3 of Chapter 8 of the Charter of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, and subject to the provisions of Section 15.1-483 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), that a certain street space, being forty feet in width, situated between Lot No. 10 (owned by Louise R. Ross) and Lot No. 11 (owned by Mary V. L. Cummings), as shown on subsection "Double Circle 6" of Section 34 of the Tax Map of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, and extending from the right-of-way of the east side of Oakdale Street eastward to a twenty-five foot alley adjacent and parallel to the western boundary of the J. Frank Wilson Memorial Park (i.e., "City Park"), is hereby closed, vacated and abandoned. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force from date of adoption.
