( <br /> <br />/, <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />, OCTOBER 9, 1979 <br /> <br />Council deferred action on the accepting of the resignation of Mr. James M, Wilson as a <br /> <br />City-representative to the West Piedmont Planning District Commission.s Public Services <br /> <br />Committee and, too, deferred action to name a successor to Nr. Wilson, <br /> <br />Council agreed to meet jointly with the City School Board, at the School Board's office, <br /> <br />on Monday, October 15, 1979, beginning at 3\30 P,M., to receive a presentation by the <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />City-School insurance consultant (Industrial Insurance Management Corporation) on a pro-. <br /> <br />posed reciprocal-and=pooling insurance program for participating Virginia governmental <br /> <br />jurisdictions, currently coordinated by the Virginia Municipal League. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of Councilman Greene, Council scheduled for its forthcoming November <br /> <br />13th agenda a discussion of the Report on Audit for the City.s fiscal year ended June 30, <br /> <br />1979, to be preceded by an inspection of the City.s Central Warehouse and its operations. <br /> <br />Upon inquiry from Vice Mayor Cole, Council was informed that the odors from the general <br /> <br />area of the City's sewage treatment plant on Smith River are emanating from a Henry County <br /> <br />Public Service Authority lagoon serving the Bassett-Walker plant nearby, <br /> <br />Councilman West noted that industrial and commercial wastes now being hauled to the City's <br /> <br />disposal site are not sufficiently covered and protected during hauling, in instances, to <br /> <br />prevent spilling upon City streets, a condition the industrial and commercial business <br /> <br />firms are aware of and are exerting efforts to correct. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />- J~~~.~~ <br />w.
