<br />[16 <br />j ) <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 9, 1979 <br /> <br />The regular semi~monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, October 9, 1979, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7c30 P,M., all members being present, viz., <br /> <br />William D. Hobson, Mayor~ William C. Cole, Jr" Vice Mayor~ Barry A. Greene; L. D. Oakes; <br /> <br />and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved~as recorded~the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held September 20, 1979. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly~advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br /> <br />Virginia Mirror Company's recently~filed petition, subsequently recommended by the <br /> <br />Planning Commission to Council for approval, seeking the abandonment and closing of <br /> <br />certain streets, street spaces, and alleys abutting property owned by petitioner and <br /> <br />situated near and around petitioner~s plant south of South Moss Street. There being <br /> <br />no objections registered by any citizen to the petition and its aims, and in acceptance <br /> <br />of the Planning Commission's recommendations thereon, Council unanimously adopted the <br /> <br />following ordinance amending the City Plan and effecting the requested abandonments and <br /> <br />closings, as follows: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled, pursuant to Section 3 of Chapter 8 of the <br />Charter of the City of Martinsville~ Virginia, and subject to the <br />exercising by the City of Martinsville of its rights, if any, under <br />Section 15.1-483 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), should <br />said City of Martinsville so choose to exercise such rights, if any, <br />that the following streets, street spaces and/or alleys are hereby closed, <br />vacated and abandoned: <br /> <br />(1) Roanoke Street, between South Moss Street and Electra Street; <br />(2) Reynolds Street, between Lavinder Street and Roanoke Street; <br />(3) an undeveloped alley between Lavinder Street and Roanoke Street, <br />extending to the rear of lots fronting South Moss Street; <br />(4) Electra Street, between Lavinder Street and N&W Railway Company's <br />right..-of-way; <br />(5) an undeveloped alley between Lavinder Street and the N&W Railway <br />Company's right..-of-way and between lots fronting on Maryland and <br />Electra Streets; and <br />
