<br />"': ~.~ ," <br />.....-i" ~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 14, 1979 <br /> <br />Upon inquiry from Councilman Greene and upon motion, duly seconded and <br /> <br />unanimously carried, Council empowered City Manager Noland to resolve a <br /> <br />previously-considered problem involving the location in City Hall of the <br /> <br />Martinsville Exchange Club's Freedom Shrine exhibit. <br /> <br />Other matters discussed and/or considered by Council were: <br /> <br />(1) the current status of the authorized property tax rebate (on <br /> <br />taxes paid and assessed for the year 1977~78)~ <br /> <br />(2) the status of the report being prepared by the City's consulting <br /> <br />engineers on Phase II-A of the City's proposed Ridgeway hydro- <br /> <br />electric project; <br /> <br />(3) activities of the Clean Community Commission, on which a progress <br /> <br />report is expected at Council's next regular meeting; and <br /> <br />(4) the current status of the City's Waterworks Improvement program, <br /> <br />on which a report is expected at Council's next regular meeting. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried (by a r~corded vote), and <br /> <br />pursuant to Section 2.1-344 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) and <br /> <br />specifically to paragraph (6) thereof, Council convened into an Executive <br /> <br />Session for the purpose of consulting with City Attorney Worhty on a civil <br /> <br />action recently brought against the City's Commissioner of the Revenue by Forest <br /> <br />Lakes Subdivision (Mr. T. J. Childress, Jr., plaintiff), charging duplicate tax <br /> <br />assessments against properties held and/or owned by said Forest Lakes Subdivision. <br /> <br />Upon reconvening into regular session, and upon motion (duly seconded and unanimously <br /> <br />carried), Council authorized City Attorney Worthy to file an appropriate response to <br /> <br />this action. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />. . . )"11'U~ <br />w.
