<br />(' ,.,.. <br />f"".~' tv~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 26, 1979 <br /> <br />Council unanimously authorized City Manager Noland to execute a proposed electric service <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />contract with Appalachian Power Company, to replace such contract or contracts now in existence, <br /> <br />for the providing of electric service to specified City facilities located outside the City's <br /> <br />) <br /> <br />corporate limits. <br /> <br />There being brought to Council's attention the fact that, through its recently-executed <br /> <br />agreement with the Martinsville Farmers Market Association, the formerly designated "public <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />market place" for licensed produce peddlers at the City's Fayette Street Parking Lot is no <br /> <br />longer available for such licensed peddlers, Council requested the City Administration to <br /> <br />designate another area for such usage and purpose and to report on same to Council. <br /> <br />Council took no action on the following requests submitted by Pastor Qiblah Khan, of the local <br /> <br />Muslim congregation: <br /> <br />1. referring to the G Street area, that there be developed a playground <br />(with Council suggesting that this matter be discussed with the City <br />Administration); and <br />2. that, in observance of the International Year of the Child, Mayor <br />Hobson proclaim the forthcoming week beginning July lst as "Morally- <br />Conscious Music Week". <br /> <br />Mr. Robert N. Crockett, of ID07 Mountain Road, recalling some recent publicity regarding the <br /> <br />amounts and/or scope of uncollected City taxes, urged that every effort be made by the City <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />to collect such taxes. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized City Attorney Worthy to <br /> <br />file appropriate responsive pleadings to the civil action suit recently filed against the City, <br /> <br />its City Manager and its Police Chief, by Mr. Jerry D. Keffer, former City police officer. <br />
