<br />(~, 0, /1 <br />f, ,_ '::t <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 24, 1979 <br /> <br />Council was notified that the West Martinsville Jaycees organization has withdrawn <br /> <br />its application for a Special-Use Permit (filed with Council on March 13, 1979) to <br /> <br />allow this organization's sponsorship of the Hoxie Brothers Circus at Liberty Heights <br /> <br />Fairgrounds on May 10, 1979. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of reports from the Planning Commission, in which reports <br /> <br />the Commission recommended the approval and/or granting by Council of the following <br /> <br />petitions and/or applications, subject to certain conditions, for which Council <br /> <br />directed that duly-advertised public hearings be conducted on these matters at Council's <br /> <br />forthcoming May 22nd meeting: <br /> <br />1. Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company's application for a Special-Use <br />Permit for the conduct of the 1979 Firemen's Bazaar at Liberty Heights <br />Fairgrounds, June 29th-July 7th; <br />2. The petition submitted March 13, 1979, by Mr. D. W. Hampton and <br />Dr. Robert L. Mason, requesting the closing and abandonment of <br />un-opened Marshall Street, in the Cabell Acres Subdivision, off <br />Salmon Street: <br />3. Fralin & Waldron's application (filed February 13, 1979) for a <br />Special-Use Permit to allow for the construction and operation of a <br />94-unit apartment building (for the elderly and/or handicapped) on <br />the north side of Spruce Street, generally opposite Spruce Street's <br />intersection with Auburn Place; <br />4. Messrs. Eanes' and Hughes' application (filed February 27, 1979) <br />for a Special-Use Permit to allow for the construction and operation <br />of a l20-unit apartment building (for the elderly and/or handicapped), <br />t/a Sprucedale Manor, off the north side of Brookdale Road, to the <br />rear of Lowe's Thrifty Mart; and <br />5. Handi-Photo's application (filed February 27, 1979) for a Special-Use <br />Permit to allow for the construction and operation of a "Drive-Up <br />Photo Booth" in the parking lot area of the Kroger Store shopping center, <br />Commonwealth Boulevard. <br /> <br />(NOTE: Councilman West abstained from taking any part in the proceedings <br />involving items "3." and "4." hereinabove because of his real <br />estate holdings in the general area of these two properties.) <br />
