TUESDAY

JANUARY 2, 1979

.,-...

In connection wi.th this pro~ed project, members of the Henry County Board of Supervisors

indicated that one major concern has been expressed by oymers of property which might

adjoin the impoundment, viz., that of direct access to and from the impoundment, to which

the opinion was given that such access would not be restricted by the City. In concluding

the discussion of this project, Council extended an invitation to the Supervisors to attend

Council's forthcoming January 9th meeting to hear the aforesaid select committee's report

and presentation.

.-.

-

In keeping with the theme for which this joint meeting was conducted, viz., the County and

the City conferring with each other, from time to time, on matters of mutual concern and

interests, Mayor Hobson cited eleven areas of governmental activities in which the County

and the City are currently and jointly involved. Other areas of joint sponsorship and

operations discussed by the two governing bodies were:

(a) solid waste disposal, with emphasis on problems associated with disposing

of motor vehicle tires and (with) the joint recommendation that the

administrative staffs of the two governing bodies give further study to this

aspect and explore the feasibility of a joint operation , possibly with the

shared-cost purchase and operation of a tire-slitting machine;

(b) solid waste disposal, i.e., land-fill operations, including certain findings

and suggestions recently prepared by both the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber

of Commerce and the West Piedmont Planning District Commission;

(c) solid waste disposal, and the important role the recently-organized Martinsville-

Henry County Clean Community Commission can play therein; and

(d) data processing and computerization, which the City is now exploring, with the

suggestion that the City's consultant thereon confer with Henry County officials,

looking to the possibility and/or feasibility of sharing a central processor with

Henry County, now in the process of up-dating its data-processing facilities and

capabilities.
