<br />.., ,.. <br /> <br />J. . <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 14~ 1978 <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />Council noted that~ through a verbal communication from Congressman Dan Daniel, the City's <br /> <br />"UDAG" application (authorized by Council July 23~ 1978), seeking $3,090,000.00 of Federal <br /> <br />funding to finance the cost of certain water system improvements~ has been approved. <br /> <br />Council unanimously authorized the per-diem compensation of $50.00 for each of the three <br /> <br />members (Messrs. Joe S. McFaddin, Lawrence T. Earley~ and Robert E. Saville) appointed by <br /> <br />the Honorable Frank I. Richardson~ Jr., Judge of the twenty-first Judicial Circuit~ under <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />date of August 25, 1978~ as the City's Board of Equalization~ in accordance with Section <br /> <br />58-895 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended). <br /> <br />In response to invitations extended five area contractors for bids to construct a general <br /> <br />purpose-storage building for the City's Recreation Dpeartment~ to be located in the City's <br /> <br />Central Warehouse area~ only the bid of $59~500,00~ submitted by Stanley W. Bowles Corporation, <br /> <br />was received. Upon recommendation of the City's administrative staff~ items in the total <br /> <br />amount of $2,450.00 were eliminated therefrom, leaving a net bid of $57~050.00~ which Council <br /> <br />unanimously accepted~ appropriating therefor a supplement of $2~050.00 to the initial <br /> <br />$55~000.00 appropriation made August 22, 1978. <br /> <br />A report, as requested by Councilman Greene~ on the City's purchasing policies and procedures, <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />was scheduled for Council's next regular meeting. <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved a request submitted under date of November 3~ 1978~ by <br /> <br />Mr, Emory J. Bolejack~ Personnel Director of American Furniture Company~ Inc.~ for and on <br /> <br />behalf of said American Furniture Company, seeking the construction by the City of a sidewalk <br /> <br />".- <br /> <br />along the east side of Broad Street, between the Norfolk & Western Railway Company's right-of- <br /> <br />way and Broad Street's intersection with Aaron Street~ for which materials would be furnished by <br />
