<br />~4 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 12, 1978 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />with Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, September 12, 1978, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., <br /> <br />William D. Hobson, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; Barry A. Greene; L. D. Oakes; <br /> <br />and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held August 22, 1978 and of its special (organizational) meeting held September 1, 1978. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a <br /> <br />proposal, recently initiated by the City and subsequently recommended by the Planning <br /> <br />Commission for Council's approval, to rezone from "R-6 Residential" to "M-3 Industrialll <br /> <br />all of those properties within the block bounded by Water Street, Ellsworth Street, and <br /> <br />Mulberry Road Extension, with the exception of those lots therein on which residential <br /> <br />housing presently exists. There being no objections registered by anyone to this proposed <br /> <br />rezoning, and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation(s) thereon, Council <br /> <br />effected said rezoning by its adoption of the following ordinance amending the City's <br /> <br />Zoning Map: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsvi1le, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled, that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to reflect and effect an "M-3 <br />Industrialll zoning of, generally, all of those properties, with the <br />exception of those lots on which residential housing presently exists, <br />situated within that block bounded by Water Street, Ellsworth Street, <br />and Mulberry Road Extension. Said area hereby rezoned is more <br />specifically identified as being Parcel "A" (an area containing 122,873 <br />square feet) and Parcel "B" (an area containing 2,764 square feet), plus <br />Lots Nos. 7 and 8 fronting the northwest side of Water Street and that <br />parcel of land owned by C. G. & Lacy W. Mays abutting said Parcel llB", <br />all of which is shown on Plat of Survey prepared by J. A. Gustin & <br />Associates (under date of July 28, 1978) for the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia. <br />
