--ji
J..L

TUESDAY

AUGUST 22, 1978

representatives of the U. S. Corps of Engineers, meanwhile expressing a desire to obtain

from owners-operators of similar projects constructed in recent years their experience in

financing and constructing such projects, with special emphasis on the comparisons of final

construction costs with pre-construction cost estimates. In connection with the proposed

project, a representative of the local chapter of Trout, Unlimited, urged Council to

include provisions in the hydro-electric dam to ensure a cold-water release therefrom,

similar to that in the Corps of Engineers' Philpott Dam installation on Smith River, above

---

the Philpott community, in order that--in addition to the "warm water fishery" in the

impoundment--a "cold water fishery" result for several miles downstream.

Mr. Walter Reynolds, of Fifth Street, appeared before Council and registered a complaint

involving the scheduling and reserving of tennis courts at Martinsville Senior High

School by the City's Recreation Department, with particular reference to incidents which

occurred on August 16th-17th. Council took this matter under advisement. Meanwhile,

Mr. Reynolds suggested and/or recommended that the City, through its Recreation Department,

provide all possible recreational facilities to attract and involve, especially, the maximum

number of young people within the City.

Council was adjourned.

--

'.A )~ll "'" ~
W.
