<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 9, 1978 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvi11e, Virginia, with <br /> <br />Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, May 9, 1978, in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members--with the exception of Councilman Francis T. <br /> <br />West, who was away from the city--being present, viz., William D. Hobson, Mayor; William C. <br /> <br />Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; Barry A. Greene; and L. D. Oakes. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held April 25, 1978, and of its special meeting held May 8, 1978. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on the <br /> <br />property rezoning petition submitted February 28, 1978, by Fifteen Cleveland Avenue, Inc., <br /> <br />seeking the rezoning from "R-6 Residential" to "P-2 Professional" of certain property <br /> <br />identified as being the rear portions of the Spencer and DeShazo properties fronting the <br /> <br />north side of Brown Street, which area requested to be rezoned is in process of being <br /> <br />acquired by petitioner from the present owners. Representing petitioner was Mr. Philip G. <br /> <br />Gardner, Attorney at Law. There being no opposition registered against this petition and <br /> <br />request, and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's April 21st recommendation that <br /> <br />same be allowed, Council effected said rezoning through its adoption of the following <br /> <br />ordinance amending the City's Zoning Map: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this ninth day of May, 1978, that the <br />Zoning Map of the City of Martinsvi1le, Virginia, be--and is hereby-- <br />amended to effect and reflect a "P-2 Professional" zoning of those <br />properties identified as the rear portions of the "Shumate-Spencer" <br />and "DeShazo" properties fronting the north side of Brown Street, <br />being further identified as 317 Brown Street and 315 Brown Street, <br />respectively, which rear portions (hereby rezoned) have a depth of <br />approximately one hundred feet on the east side and approximately <br />one hundred and five feet on the west side and, further, being those <br />properties in the process of being acquired by Fifteen Cleveland <br />Avenue, Inc., from the owners of said properties situated at 317 <br />Brown Street and 315 Brown Street. <br />
