TUESDAY

MAY 9, 1978

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvi11e, Virginia, with

Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, May 9, 1978, in the Council Chamber,

City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members--with the exception of Councilman Francis T.

West, who was away from the city--being present, viz., William D. Hobson, Mayor; William C.

Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; Barry A. Greene; and L. D. Oakes.

After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting

held April 25, 1978, and of its special meeting held May 8, 1978.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on the

property rezoning petition submitted February 28, 1978, by Fifteen Cleveland Avenue, Inc.,

seeking the rezoning from "R-6 Residential" to "P-2 Professional" of certain property

identified as being the rear portions of the Spencer and DeShazo properties fronting the

north side of Brown Street, which area requested to be rezoned is in process of being

acquired by petitioner from the present owners. Representing petitioner was Mr. Philip G.

Gardner, Attorney at Law. There being no opposition registered against this petition and

request, and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's April 21st recommendation that

same be allowed, Council effected said rezoning through its adoption of the following

ordinance amending the City's Zoning Map:

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled this ninth day of May, 1978, that the
Zoning Map of the City of Martinsvi1le, Virginia, be--and is hereby--
amended to effect and reflect a "P-2 Professional" zoning of those
properties identified as the rear portions of the "Shumate-Spencer"
and "DeShazo" properties fronting the north side of Brown Street,
being further identified as 317 Brown Street and 315 Brown Street,
respectively, which rear portions (hereby rezoned) have a depth of
approximately one hundred feet on the east side and approximately
one hundred and five feet on the west side and, further, being those
properties in the process of being acquired by Fifteen Cleveland
Avenue, Inc., from the owners of said properties situated at 317
Brown Street and 315 Brown Street.
