<br />r <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 25, 1978 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Upon nomination by Councilman Greene, Council appointed Mr. David H. Gleasman to membership <br /> <br />on the City's Welfare Board for the unexpired term (ending June 30, 1979) of Mr. Robert T. <br /> <br />George, whose resignation (effective May 1, 1978) Council accepted with regrets on <br /> <br />April 11, 1978. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Upon nomination of Mayor Hobson, Council appointed Mr. Kermit E. Hairston to membership <br /> <br />on the City's Welfare Board for the unexpired term (ending June 30, 1980) of the <br /> <br />Reverend James C. Richardson, Jr., whose resignation (effective April 30, 1978) Council <br /> <br />accepted with regrets. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and recommendation, an <br /> <br />application filed by the American Property Management Corporation (a subsidiary of The <br /> <br />Lester Group) for a Special-Use Permit to allow applicant to construct fifteen apartment <br /> <br />units on a 1.2 acre-tract at Barrows Mill Road and C1earview School Drive. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council continued to its next regular meeting, in order to provide an opportunity for <br /> <br />citizen-input, a proposal (presented by the City's Administration) to establish <br /> <br />priorities on future street-thoroughfare construction, which proposal recommended therefor <br /> <br />the (1) extending of Mulberry Road from its present west terminus (now under construction) <br /> <br />at El1sworth-Brown-Maple Streets in three stages to West Church Street at Market Street, <br /> <br />with certain connecting branches, and (2) the extending of Commonwealth Boulevard from <br /> <br />Chatham Road eastward to U. S. Route 58, near Salmons Street. <br /> <br />Council also continued for further consideration, pending the appearances before Council <br /> <br />of Mrs. Mabelle S. King, Director of the City's Social Services Department, and Mr. Leon A. <br /> <br />Lackey, Jr., Finance Chairman of the Patrick Henry Foster Care Services, Inc., a request by <br />
