"
y" -t

NOVEMBER 23, 1982

TUESDAY

provide that the City's cost-share of the on-going Health Center Expansion Project be

funded from General Fund Surplus in the amount of $100,000.00 and that a like amount

toward pre-paying the loan for the City's data processing system be financed from Revenue-

Sharing funds, subject to the required advertising and conducting of an administrative

public hearing on the proposed change in the use of said Revenue-Sharing funds resulting

from this revision.

Council unanimously supported in principle a proposal by the Virginia Municipal League

that this organization undertake joint action to negotiate telephone service rates for

local government purposes; however, Council held in abeyance any commitment as to the

City's proportionate cost-share.

Council unanimously directed that an expression of its sympathy be conveyed to the

relatives of the Steigerwald family and the two young ladies accompanying the Steigerwalds

(all from the Baltimore, Maryland, area) who lost their lives recently in an airplane

crash near Blue Ridge Airport.

Council unanimously congratulated the Martinsville High School Football Team and its

coaching staff upon this team's recent winning of the State Group AA-Region 3 champion-

ship and, too, extended its best wishes as the team progresses in its quest for the

Group AA State Championship, particularly in its November 27th semi-final playoff game

with Tazewell.

Council concurred with Mayor Cole in his recommendation that the future of Revenue-

Sharing funds and the usage of such funds in the future be studied, especially for the

City's financial planning in the event the Revenue-Sharing program is discontinued.
