<br />': ('''.. <br />~:~}-t: <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 9, 1982 <br /> <br />Councilman West (who earlier in this meeting expressed his opinion that the petitioner <br /> <br />had presented a reasonable case and that no additional information should be required) <br /> <br />introduced a motion (seconded by Vice-Mayor Oakes) that the rate revision be granted. <br /> <br />This motion carried by a vote of four-to-one (Mayor Cole voting against the motion) and, <br /> <br />accordingly, Section 16-41 of the City Code was amended in the form of the following <br /> <br />ordinance: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled, that Section 16-41 of the Code of the City <br />of Martinsville (1971), and as amended, be and is hereby further amended <br />as fo llows: <br /> <br />Section 16-41. Rates of fare. <br /> <br />No owner or operator of any taxicab operated under a certi- <br />ficate of public convenience and necessity issued under this <br />article shall charge for the hire thereof a sum that shall be <br />greater or lesser than the following: <br /> <br />For the first two-tenths of a mile <br />or fraction thereof..................... $0.95 <br /> <br />For each succeeding one-tenth of <br />a mi le thereafter ....................... $0.10 <br /> <br />In addition to the foregoing charges: <br /> <br />For each trunk, if handled by <br /> <br />driver ............................... $0.30 <br /> <br />For placing large bundles or <br />packages or groceries into <br />cab and removing same there- <br />from into residence or building ...... $0.30 <br /> <br />For each minute of waiting time ......... $0.133 <br /> <br />There shall be no charge for extra <br />passengers or handbags. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that establishment of the foregoing rates is <br />considered to be an emergency matter, that the requirements for a <br />separate-day introduction of this ordinance is hereby waived, and that <br />this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its adoption, or <br />as soon hereafter as the taxicab meters can be converted or reset to <br />reflect these rates. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation (dated November 2, <br />
