<br />~i () <br />~ ~: ';I; , . <br /> <br />TUESDAY OCTOBER 12, 1982 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, October 12, 1982, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., <br /> <br />William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Henry C. Reed; Eliza H. Severt; <br /> <br />and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, and following the presentation of service awards to those employees <br /> <br />who reached five-year increments of employment service during the quarter ended September 30, <br /> <br />1982, which employment service ranged from five years to thirty-five years, and following the <br /> <br />presentation of tokens of appreciation to Mrs. Mary M. Travis and Mr. John A. Mitchell for <br /> <br />their services as members, respectively, of the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Seniors of <br /> <br />Virginia, Inc., and the City's Transportation Safety Commission (from which agencies they <br /> <br />recently resigned), Council unanimously approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held September 28, 1982. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a proposed <br /> <br />amendment (recommended for adoption by the Planning Commission and sought by the Martinsville <br /> <br />Athletic Club) to Section IX-B-8 of the City's Zoning Ordinance, whereby off-street parking <br /> <br />and loading regulations for private clubs, lodges, and swimming pools would be made less <br /> <br />restrictive than presently required. There being no objections registered against ~h~s <br /> <br />proposal, the public hearing was declared closed; whereupon motion (duly seconded and unani- <br /> <br />mously carried) Council adopted said proposed ordinance amendment, as follows: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twelfth day of October, 1982, that Item 8 <br />of Paragraph B of Section IX of the Zoning Ordinance of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />8. <br /> <br />Auditoriums, theatres, stadiums, recreation arenas, and <br />similar uses involving the assembly of persons at scheduled <br />
