<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 28, 1982 <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, September 28, 1982, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7~30 P.M., all members being present, viz., <br /> <br />William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Henry C. Reed; Mrs. Eliza H. Severt; <br /> <br />and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />-. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held September 14, 1982. <br /> <br />Members of Council congratulated Councilman West upon his having been elected and installed <br /> <br />as President of the Virginia Municipal League at the League's 1982 Conference held September <br /> <br />19th-21st in Virginia Beach, Virginia, noting that Mr. West is the first and only official <br /> <br />from the City of Martinsville to have attained this office. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a petition, recently <br /> <br />filed by Mr. Philip G. Gardner, Attorney at Law, on behalf of Dr. & Mrs. David C. Jones, <br /> <br />seeking the rezoning of the Jones' property at 225 Starling Avenue from "R-6 Residential" to <br /> <br />"P-2 Professional", which petition has been considered by the Planning Commission and has <br /> <br />been recommended for Council's approval. There being no objections registered by any citizen <br /> <br />to the petition and the public hearing being declared closed, Council accepted the Planning <br /> <br />Commission's recommendation thereon and adopted the following ordinance amending the City's <br /> <br />Zoning Map and effecting said rezoning: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular <br />meeting assembled September 28, 1982, that the Zoning Map of the City of <br />Martinsville be--and is hereby--amended to reclassify from "R-6 Residential" to <br />"P-2 Profes:odonal" that certain property identified as Lot No. 30 on Section 43 <br />of the Tax Map of the City of Martinsville, and being further identified as being <br />located at 225 Starling Avenue and owned by David C. and Karen Jones. <br /> <br />An emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force on and after September 28, <br />1982. <br />
