TUESDAY

AUGUST 24, 1982

3. A handbook recently published by the Druid Hills Elementary School
in preparation for the new school year.

Council acknowledged receipt of a report from the Municipal Electric Power Association

of Virginia (MEPAV) of that organization's meeting held August 3, 1982, during which

meeting the Association voted to cancel future investment in the Cave Run and Fishtrap

hydro-electric projects, for which preliminary permits for hydro-generation rights

(see Council minutes of July 13, 1982) have been awarded.

Council unanimously authorized the preparation of an application for Community Improve-

ment Grant funds in the amount of $700,000.00, under the Virginia Community Development

Block Grant Program, for the purpose of helping finance the cost of the proposed ex-

panding and upgrading of the City's wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to increase

its treatment capacity from 6 mgd to 8 mgd correlative to the proposed expanding and

upgrading of the Henry County Public Service Authority's Upper Smith River Wastewater

Treatment Plant (from 4 mgd to 8 mgd), a regional concept already approved by the

State Water Control Board and the State Health Department. Council, also scheduled a

required public hearing, with due notice thereof, on the proposed application for

Council's forthcoming September 14th meeting.

The meeting was adjourned.
