<br />THURSDAY JULY 1, 1982 <br /> <br />Mayor were Councilmen Oakes and West. Voting for Councilman Cole for this position were <br /> <br />Councilmen Reed and Cole and Councilwoman Severt; thus, Councilman Cole was elected and <br /> <br />declared Mayor. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Nominations for the office of Vice-Mayor, also for a two-year term beginning July 1, <br /> <br />1982, were Councilman Reed (nominated by Councilman Cole) and Councilman Oakes (nominated <br /> <br />by Councilman West). There being no other nominations, the nominating procedure was <br /> <br />closed. Voting for Councilman Oakes were Councilmen West and Oakes and Councilwoman <br /> <br />Severt; thus, Councilman Oakes was elected and declared Vice-Mayor. <br /> <br />Mayor Cole and Vice-Mayor Oakes then subscribed to their respective oaths of office, as <br /> <br />administered by Mr. Clift. <br /> <br />In assuming the position of Mayor, Mr. Cole emphasized the need to (1) concentrate on <br /> <br />fundamental matters; (2) keep lines of communication open between and with members of <br /> <br />Council, the Henry County Board of Supervisors, and various boards and commissions; <br /> <br />(3) strive for better understanding and be sensitive to the needs and wishes of citizens; <br /> <br />(4) establish goals for the next two years and develop plans to achieve these goals; and <br /> <br />(5) eliminate inefficiency and strive to reduce cost of services. <br /> <br />The meeting was then concluded and adj ourned. <br /> <br /> <br />Clerk of Council <br />
