<br />MAY 24, 1982 <br /> <br />MONDAY <br /> <br />_. <br /> <br />A special meeting, duly-called by action of Martinsville City Council taken in its <br /> <br />special meeting conducted April 27, 1982, of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, was held Monday, May 24, 1982, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning <br /> <br />at 1:00 P.M., for the purpose of giving further consideration to City Manager Edmonds' <br /> <br />recommended City Budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1982, with emphasis on <br /> <br />1982-83 budget requests submitted by the Martinsville City School Board, the <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />Martinsville-Henry County Health Department, and the Piedmont Emergency Medical <br /> <br />Services Council. All members of Council were present, viz., Mayor Barry A. Greene, <br /> <br />presiding; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; L. D. Oakes; Henry C. Reed; and Francis <br /> <br />T. West. Also present were the following representatives of the following agencies: <br /> <br />Martinsville City School Board (and Administrative Staff) <br />Mr. Worth H. Carter, Jr., Chairman <br />Mrs. Margaret Irby, Member <br />Mr. Ronald A. Brugge, Member <br /> <br />Dr. James E. Calkins, Superintendent <br />Mrs. Lynda W. Pulliam, School Board Clerk <br /> <br />Piedmont Emergency Medical Services Council <br />Mr. Kippy Cassell, Coordinator <br /> <br />Martinsville-Henry County Health Department <br />Mr. Norman J. Paulsen, Administrator <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />After the purpose of this special meeting was stated, Council received from the City <br /> <br />School Board a tabulation reflecting the net local costs of operating the City School <br /> <br />System for each of the years 1876-77 through 1980-81, plus estimated local costs for <br /> <br />1981-82 (of $3,624,000.00) and for 1982-83 (as revised) of $3,901,000.00, the 1982-83 <br /> <br />projection being $49,000.00 less than that recently estimated for 1982-83 budget <br /> <br />preparation purposes. Also received from the School Board was a tabulation showing <br /> <br />salary scales for teachers for 1980-81 and 1981-82, plus the proposed scale, as <br /> <br />adopted by the School Board, for 1982-83.
