<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 12. 1982 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted (by ordinance or <br /> <br />ordinances) the following amendments to Chapters 1, 2, and 3 of the City Code, as placed <br /> <br />on first reading by Council at its December 22nd meeting: <br /> <br />CHAPTER 1. <br />GENERAL PROVISIONS <br /> <br />Sec. 1-2. <br /> <br />Rules Of Co~tr~ction. <br /> <br />Comoutatioij of time. Change last clause to read, Iland if <br />the last day be Saturday, Sunday or a legal holiday, that <br />day shall be excluded. Ii <br /> <br />~ The word t'ci ty II and the words "the ci ty n shall mean <br />the City of Martinsville, Virginia. <br /> <br />CommopweaJ,.1ib. The word "Commonwealth II shall mean the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br />Sec. 1-6. <br /> <br />Penalties for V~olations: Continu1n~ Violations: I~junctive <br />Relief for Continuin~ ViolatioOl~ <br /> <br />(a) Wherever in this Code or in any ordinance or resolution <br />of the city, or rule or regulation or order promulgated <br />by any officer or agency of the city under the authority <br />duly vested in him or it, any act is prohibited or is <br />declared to be unlawful or an offense or a misdemeanor <br />or a traffic infraction or the doing of any act required <br />or the failure to do any act is declared to be unlawful <br />or an offense or a misdemeanor or a traffic infraction, <br />such violation shall be punished as provided in this <br />section unless a specific penalty is otherwise pro- <br />vided for such violation. <br /> <br />(b) Whenever a violation is specified as a misdemeanor by <br />class, the authorized punishment for a conviction <br />therefor shall be the following: <br /> <br />(i) For a Class 1 misdemeanor, confinement in jail <br />for not more than twelve months and a fine of <br />not more than one thousand dollars, either or <br />both. <br /> <br />(ii) For a Class 2 misdemeanor, confinement in, jail <br />for not more than six months and a fine of not <br />more than five hundred dollars, either or both. <br />
