TUESDAY JANUARY 12. 1982 .'- Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted (by ordinance or ordinances) the following amendments to Chapters 1, 2, and 3 of the City Code, as placed on first reading by Council at its December 22nd meeting: CHAPTER 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS Sec. 1-2. Rules Of Constructio~ ,,-- Comoutatioo of time. Change last clause to read, Iland if the last day be Saturday, Sunday or a legal holiday, that day shall be excluded. h ~ The word !lei ty II and the words "the ci ty n shall mean the City of Martinsville, Virginia. CommoJ1we~J.j;b.. The word "Commonwealth II shall mean the Commonwealth of Virginia. Sec. 1-6. Penalties for Violations: Continuin~ Violations: Injunctive Relief for Continuin~ ViolatioUf. (a) Wherever in this Code or in any ordinance or resolution of the city, or rule or regulation or order promulgated by any officer or agency of the city under the authority duly vested in him or it, any act is prohibited or is declared to be unlawful or an offense or a misdemeanor or a traffic infraction or the doing of any act required or the failure to do any act is declared to be unlawful or an offense or a misdemeanor or a traffic infraction, such violation shall be punished as provided in this section unless a specific penalty is otherwise pro- vided for such violation. - (b) Whenever a violation is specified as a misdemeanor by class, the authorized punishment for a conviction therefor shall be the following: (i) For a Class 1 misdemeanor, confinement in jail for not more than twelve months and a fine of not more than one thousand dollars, either or both. (ii) For a Class 2 misdemeanor, confinement in, jail for not more than six months and a fine of not more than five hundred dollars, either or both.
