<br />t; <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 22, 1981 <br /> <br />Council continued, for further consideration and/or action at its forthcoming <br /> <br /> <br />January 12th meeting, certain amendments (recommended by the Planning Commission) <br /> <br /> <br />to Sections II and V of the City's Zoning Ordinance, applicable to visual <br /> <br /> <br />screening of outside storage sites in the City's commercial and manufacturing zones. <br /> <br />Council commended the City's police Department and its personnel for recent <br /> <br />accomplishments and efforts in the following activity areas: <br /> <br />A. Pedestrian safety, for which the City has received a current <br />award from the American Automobile Association; <br /> <br />B. Marked improvements to the department's firing range, located <br />in the City's Industrial Park complex; and <br /> <br />C. The recent apprehending of a large number of persons charged <br />with violations of statutes governing the posession and/or sale <br />of controlled drugs or narcotics. <br /> <br />Council received from City Manager Edmonds, and continued for future consideration, <br /> <br />a proposed policy statement concerning the City's Industrial Park and its development. <br /> <br />Council also received from City Manager Edmonds a status report on the City's overall <br /> <br /> <br />water supply situation and, too, continued under advisement the proposed water agree- <br /> <br />ment (presented to Council in special meeting held December 21, 1981) between the <br /> <br /> <br />City and the County of Henry. <br /> <br />City Manager Edmonds reported that the City's second annual "garage sale", disposing <br /> <br /> <br />of surplus materials at an auction recently conducted, produced $12,333.00. <br /> <br />Council extended its best wishes to Mr. Lawrence Latanne, who will soon terminate <br /> <br />his employment with the Martinsville Bulletin for a vocation elsewhere, during which <br />employment Mr. Latanne "covered" City Council meetings. <br /> <br />Council unanimously agreed to recognize formally, at its forthcoming January 12th <br /> <br /> <br />meeting, Mr. James L. Carter and Mr. D. B. Hanel, who--after long and faithful <br /> <br /> <br />service--will retire on December 31, 1981 as City Sheriff and City Commissioner of <br /> <br /> <br />the Revenue, respectively. <br />
