<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 29, 1981 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />with Mayor Barry A. Greene presiding, was held Tuesday, September 29, 1981, in the <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., <br />Barry A. Greene, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; L. D. Oakes; Henry C. Reed; <br />and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its special meeting <br />held September 1, 1981 and of its regular meeting held September 8, 1981. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a <br /> <br />petition requesting the vacating and abandonment of that portion of Maryland Street <br /> <br />which lies between Lavinder Street and Memorial Boulevard, which petition was filed by <br /> <br />James P. Price, et als, owners of abutting property. There being no objections <br /> <br />registered to this petition, and upon recommendation of the Planning Commission (that <br /> <br />the petition be granted), Council unanimously directed the vacating and abandonment of <br /> <br />said street section through adoption of the following ordinance: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, James P. Price and the stockholders of Price & Price Real Estate, <br />being the owners of Lots Nos. 43, 44, 45, 46, 70, 71, 72, 73, and 75 within <br />the one block of Maryland Street between Lavinder Street and Memorial Boule- <br />vard, have filed a petition requesting the vacating and abandonment of said <br />one block of Maryland Street; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville Planning Commission, having duly considered this <br />request and having conducted a duly-advertised public hearing thereon, has <br />recommended that the petition be granted; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Martinsville City Council on September 29, 1981, conducted a duly- <br />advertised public hearing on this matter, at which hearing no objections <br />were registered; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this 29th day of September, 1981, that the section <br />of Maryland Street situated between Lavinder Street and Memorial Boulevard <br />be, and the same is hereby declared, vacated and abandoned. <br /> <br />Also, pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br />a petition requesting the vacating and abandonment of one-half of that section of <br />Brown Street which abuts property on the east side of Ellsworth Street at its inter- <br />section with Mulberry Road, which petition was filed jointly by Patricia A. Byrum, <br />Albert G. Byrum, Jr., Emma S. Richmond, and Marion D. Richmond. There being no <br />objections registered to this petition, and upon recommendation of the Planning <br />
