f ' j ,
~)U

TUESDAY

JUNE 23, 1981

A. Those properties fronting both sides of Ellsworth Street
and situated between the present CBD C-2 Commercial zone
on Ellsworth Street and Mulberry Road Extension (formerly
Brown Street); and

B. Lot No. 18 fronting Mulberry Road Extension
(formerly Brown Street).

Following its conduct of a duly-advertised public hearing on the Planning

Commission's recommended changes in several sections of the City's Zoning

Ordinance, pertaining to the definition of home occupations and related

matters, at which hearing a letter of comments or objections to present home

occupation usages was acknowledged from Marlyn B. Buffington, of 218 Starling

Avenue, Council placed on first reading an ordinance which, if adopted, would

effect such recommended changes.

After conducting a review in accordance with the special-use permit issued

February 10, 1980 to The Exchange Club of Martinsville for the conduct and/or

sponsorship of the annual Martinsville-Henry County Fair at Liberty Heights

Fairgrounds, Council unanimously continued this permit in force for the 1981

Fair during the period September 7th-September 12th, subject to the conditions

made a part of the original permit.

Through Councilman Reed, who provided Council with certain information stemming

from the years Mr. Reed served on the City School Board and as its Chairman, the

General Joseph Martin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution requested

that a portrait of General Joseph Martin, located in the Joseph Martin School for

many years, be placed in the City's Municipal Building, now that the Joseph Martin

School has been abandoned as a public school. Council indicated that it would

accept this portrait, with the understanding that every effort will be made to

place it in an appropriate location in City Hall.
