4

TUESDAY

JUNE 9, 1981

first reading an ordinance to effect such amendments, being a revision of

certain sections of Chapter 11 of the City Code.

Council also unanimously placed on first reading a proposed amendment, as

recommended by City Manager Edmonds, to Section 11-6 of the City Code, pertaining

to the keeping of inoperative motor vehicles within the City's residential and

professional zones.

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved, for execution

by City Manager Edmonds, a lease agreement with Hooker Furniture Corporation, for

one year beginning July 1, 1981, under which the City will pay to Hooker Futniture

Corporation the sum of $643.50 to off-set lessor's cost of City real estate taxes

levied against lessor's English Field, a facility being made available (as it has

in the past without cost) to the City for recreational sporting events conducted

under the auspices of the City's Recreation Department.

In connection with a recently-submitted report on the status of, and current

collection procedures for, delinquent real estate taxes, City Treasurer John W.

Bouldin, Jr., appeared before Council and described the favorable results of a

recent listing and publication of such taxes now delinquent in their third year.

Meanwhile, Council requested further study of this matter by City Manager Edmonds

and City Attorney Worthy, particularly as to available legal measures by which

the City might enforce collection of such taxes, particularly those delinquent

taxes recorded in the Circuit Court Clerk's office, with Council further requesting

that Messrs. Edmonds and Worthy develop and recommend to Council a general policy

which Council might adopt and apply, as a continuing policy (until changed or

rescinded), as procedures for the enforced collection of said taxes, now delinquent

or as may become delinquent.
