Upon motion, also duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council placed on first

reading (for final adoption at Council's forthcoming June 23rd meeting) the following

ordinance which will increase the City's sewer service charges, as specified therein,

effective July 1, 1981:

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in
regular meeting assembled, that the sewer service rate(s) to be levied
against users (both within and without the City's corporate limits), as
heretofore set forth in an ordinance stipulating terms and conditions of
water and sewer services, shall be amended to read as follows:

Sewer Service Rates
For each 1,000 gallons of metered water usage per month.
Minimum charge for each customer-user per month .

$0.80
$3.20

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that these amended rates, pursuant
to second and final reading of this ordinance, shall become effective on
and after July 1, 1981.

Mr. Howard Lenderking, of 1118 Corn Tassel Trail, appeared before Council and urged

Council to reduce the minimum monthly charge for water and sewer services, pointing

out that his average monthly consumption of water, not unlike many other users, is

less than the four thousand gallons of water on which the present minimum charges

are based. Council indicated that it will give consideration to this matter;
