<br />... <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 14, 1981 <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled, that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to reclassify, for zoning purposes, <br />from "C-3 Commercial" to "R-9 Residential" those certain lots identified <br />as Lots Nos. 30, 31, 32, and 33 situated on the northwest side of Boden <br />Street, between Cherry Street and Jordan Street. <br /> <br />At the invitation of City Manager Edmonds, Mr. Robert S. Drew, President of Southern <br /> <br />Data Systems, Inc., Raleigh, North Carolina, appeared before Council and elaborated <br /> <br />upon his letter dated April 3, 1981, which explained the necessity for providing <br /> <br />additional disk storage capacity for the City's electronic data processing system, <br /> <br />as well as the terms of a proposed contract for the purchase by the City of such <br /> <br />disk capacity and for the maintenance cost thereof. After some discussion, and as <br /> <br />recommended by City Manager Edmonds, Council unanimously approved the execution of <br /> <br />said contract, subject to the approval of City Attorney Worthy. <br /> <br />After reviewing a number of proposals submitted to provide security (burglar alarms) <br /> <br />and fire-monitoring units to be located in the City's Police Headquarters, Council <br /> <br />unanimously accepted the proposal of Security Services, Inc., Rocky Mount, Virginia, <br /> <br />which acceptance constituted a five-year renewal with this firm of a contract or <br /> <br />agreement previously or now in force. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following <br /> <br />resolution primarily reorganizing the Central Business District Commission: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Central Business District (CBD) Commission was created in 1972 <br />to advise the City Council as to reversing the trends of decline and deter- <br />ioration in the City's central business district; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, studies have been completed, physical improvements have been <br />accomplished and remarkable progress has been made in revitalizing the <br />downtown area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, implementation of current plans and maintenance of the ongoing <br />health and viability of the central business district will be served by <br />the indefinite continuation of the work of the CBD Commission; <br />
