TUESDAY JANUARY 13, 1981 - The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor Barry A. Greene presiding, was held Tuesday, January 13, 1981, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., Barry A. Greene, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; L. D. Oakes; Henry C. Reed; and Francis T. West. After the invocation, through Mayor Greene, Council presented service awards to five - employees, three of whom were recognized for having completed five years of service with the City and the other two for twenty-five years. Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held December 23, 1980. Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council and the Planning Commission conducted a joint public hearing on Dr. 1. Slaydon Myers' petition seeking the rezoning, from "M-l Industrial" to "P-2 Professional", of that certain tract of land identified as "Parcel C-2" of the C. Y. Thomas Estate and situated on the west side of Brookdale Road between Madison Street and a private access easement north of property owned by The Lester Corporation, on which property Dr. Myers proposes to build an office building for professional occupancy. There being no objections registered by any citizen, and upon recommendation of the Planning Commission, Council effected the requested rezoning through its adoption of the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Map: BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this thirteenth day of January, 1981, that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to effect a "P-2 Professional" zoning classification for that certain property identified as "Parcel C-2" as shown on plat of survey for the C. Y. Thomas Estate, Inc. (revised June 18, 1980) and as shown on Section 35 of the City's tax maps, and being further identified as situated on the west side of Brookdale Road approximately 166 feet south of the intersection of Madison Street with said Brookdale Road and adjacent to the north boundary of a 37-foot private access easement north of property owned by The Lester Corporation.
