<br />22 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 13, 1983 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, December 13, 1983, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of Council--with the <br /> <br />exception of Vice-Mayor L. D. Oakes, who was away from the city--were present, viz., <br /> <br />William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; Henry C. Reed; Eliza H. Severt; and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor, Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council recog- <br /> <br />nized--and presented tokens of appreciation to--Mr. R. Noel Ward, for his services as a <br /> <br />Safety <br />member of the City's Transportation/Commission, from which agency he has resigned <br /> <br />(effective December 31, 1983) and Mr. Howard Edward Hairston for his services as a mem- <br /> <br />ber of the City's Police Department from December 1, 1963, to the date of his recent <br /> <br />retirement. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--as recorded-- <br /> <br />the minutes of its regular meeting held November 22, 1983. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on The <br /> <br />Lester Group's petition seeking the rezoning from "R-6 Residential to "C-3 Commercial" <br /> <br />of that in-City portion of petitioner's property identified as "Parcel C" and situated <br /> <br />on the north side of Commonwealth Boulevard at the City's west corporate limits. There <br /> <br />being no objections registered against this petition, Mayor Cole declared the public <br /> <br />hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council granted <br /> <br />said petition, as recommended by the City's Planning Commission, and effected said <br /> <br />requested rezoning by adoption of the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Map: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia <br />in regular meeting assembled this thirteenth day of December, 1983, <br />that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be--and is hereby-- <br />amended to reclassify from "R-6 Residential" to "C-3 Commercial" <br />
