<br />22! <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 22, 1983 <br /> <br />Central Piedmont Employment Consortium and/or its members, Council authorized the pay- <br /> <br />ment of thirty dollars ($30.00) to this agency for premium for such protection or coverage. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation on the property re- <br /> <br />zoning petition submitted by The Lester Group, Council called for a duly-advertised public <br /> <br />hearing to be conducted by Council thereon at its forthcoming December 13th meeting and <br /> <br />for action by Council thereon, said petition seeking the rezoning from "R-6 Residential" <br /> <br />to "C-3 Commercial" of the in-City portion of petitioner's property identified as Parcel <br /> <br />C, situated off the north side of Commonwealth Boulevard at the City's West Corporate <br /> <br />Limits. <br /> <br />Council unanimously cancelled its regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 27, 1983, <br /> <br />which would immediately follow the forthcoming Christmas holiday period, with the under- <br /> <br />standing that, if necessary, a special meeting will be called to consider matters of urgency. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Mayor Cole announced that, in cooperation with the State Department of Education and the <br /> <br />various public school systems, he has proclaimed the forthcoming month of December, begin- <br /> <br />ning at twelve o'clock noon on December 1st, as "Virginia Reading Month" for the citizens <br /> <br />of Martinsville. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Mayor Cole also reported on his recent correspondence with area representatives to the <br /> <br />Virginia General Assembly relating to certain proposals under study, and pending legis- <br /> <br />lative enactment, which would place a "cap" (in dollars) on certain construction work to <br /> <br />be done by local government entities and over which "cap" such entities would award <br /> <br /> <br />contracts to private enterprise. <br />
