<br />t) j <br />h.,J . <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 22, 1983 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, November 22, 1983, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., <br /> <br />William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Henry C. Reed; Eliza H. Severt; <br /> <br />and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Mayor Cole extended a cordial welcome to visitors present. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--as recorded--the <br /> <br />minutes of its regular meeting held November 8, 1983, and of its special meeting held <br /> <br />November 15, 1983. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on Mr. <br /> <br />Marvin Jamison's petition (previously approved by the Planning Commission) seeking the <br /> <br />abandonment of certain right-of-way in front of his residence at 842 Smith Street. <br /> <br />There being no objections registered against this petition, Mayor Cole declared the <br /> <br />public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council <br /> <br />approved said petition by its adoption of the following ordinance: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-second day of November, <br />1983, that the unused portion of the City's right-of-way beyond five <br />(5) feet from the back of the curb in front of.the Marvin Jamison <br />residence at 842 Smith Street be--and is hereby--abandoned, subject <br />to the filing with the Clerk of Martinsville City Circuit Court of <br />an appropriate plat reflecting the right-of-way hereby authorized <br />abandoned. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on The <br /> <br />Reverend Raymond Bennett's petition (previously approved by the Planning Commission) <br />
