t) j h.,J . TUESDAY NOVEMBER 22, 1983 - The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, November 22, 1983, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Henry C. Reed; Eliza H. Severt; and Francis T. West. After the invocation, Mayor Cole extended a cordial welcome to visitors present. Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held November 8, 1983, and of its special meeting held November 15, 1983. Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on Mr. Marvin Jamison's petition (previously approved by the Planning Commission) seeking the abandonment of certain right-of-way in front of his residence at 842 Smith Street. There being no objections registered against this petition, Mayor Cole declared the public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved said petition by its adoption of the following ordinance: BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this twenty-second day of November, 1983, that the unused portion of the City's right-of-way beyond five (5) feet from the back of the curb in front of.the Marvin Jamison residence at 842 Smith Street be--and is hereby--abandoned, subject to the filing with the Clerk of Martinsville City Circuit Court of an appropriate plat reflecting the right-of-way hereby authorized abandoned. Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on The Reverend Raymond Bennett's petition (previously approved by the Planning Commission)
