<br />II <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 10, 1983 <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />102" wide vehicles, because of the somewhat narrow widths of some of these routes or <br /> <br />streets as well as some sharp turns and the problems these vehicles would encounter at <br /> <br />certain intersections. <br /> <br />By notice dated May 3, 1983, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission informed Mayor <br /> <br />Cole that the Commission has accepted for filing (and for consideration, pending pre- <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />sentation of additional information) of the City's application for a license for the <br /> <br />proposed Ridgeway Hydroelectric project, as submitted on November 30, 1982, and as <br /> <br />amended on February 24, 1983. <br /> <br />City Manager Edmonds informed Council that copies of the City's new code (to be known <br /> <br />as the Code of the City of Martinsville, 1983) have been received from Municipal Code <br /> <br />Corporation and that an ordinance officially and formally adopting this code will be <br /> <br />presented to City Council for enactment, under emergency conditions, at Council's forth- <br /> <br />coming May 24th meeting. <br /> <br />Pursuant to Section 2.1-344(a)(1) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and <br /> <br />upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened <br /> <br />into an Executive Session for the purpose of considering nominees for appointment and/or <br /> <br />reappointment to various boards and commissions. Upon reconvening into regular session, <br /> <br />Council appointed, by acclamation, the following four citizens--as the City's member- <br /> <br />representatives of an eight-member board, with four members to be appointed by the <br /> <br />Henry County Board of Supervisors--to the Board of Directors of the Martinsville-Henry <br /> <br />County Economic Development Corporation: <br /> <br />J. Burness Frith, President, Frith Construction Company; <br />Irving M. Groves, Jr., President, Piedmont Trust Bank; <br />Ralph C. Lester (retired business executive); and <br />J. Thomas Vaughan, President, United Virginia Bank. <br />
