I
t.

TUESDAY

FEBRUARY 8, 1983

--

planning districts eleven and twelve as a service delivery area with said
City Council agreeing to participate in the development and execution of
programs operated by this service delivery area.

City Manager Edmonds reported that, through Attorney John W. Swezey (as "Escheator"),

in December of 1982 forty-seven separate properties (on which taxes were unpaid and

delinquent for many years) were sold at public auction (or were escheated), from which

-

sale $57,946.00 was realized. Deducting the costs thereof, the net sum of $46,154.00

was realized, which net sum was remitted to the Commonwealth of Virginia, with one-

half thereof to be returned to the City and the other half to be placed with the

Virginia Literary Fund. This process, which began with one hundred such properties

(many of which were "redeemed" by the payment of delinquent taxes due before the auction

sale), is continuing, with twenty-four more parcels now being scheduled for auction.

Council concurred with City Manager Edmonds' proposal that usage be made by the City

for public purposes of the now-available government access channel through Martinsville

Cablevision, such usage to be at no cost to the City and to include the displaying of

Council agenda, Planning Commission agenda, notices of public hearings, and like

material, in a digital-type format.

This meeting was then declared adjourned.

of Council

~----->
