Mrs. Kathy Foster (accompanied by her husband, Mr. <br />David Foster), Director of the First United Meth- <br />odist Church's "Soup Kitchen"; <br /> <br />7. Mrs. Lori Tucker, Coordinator of the "Reach Out" pro- <br />gram administered by St. Joseph's Catholic Church; and <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />8. Mrs. Pat Conrad, Director-appointee, and Mrs. Nancy <br />Childress, of the City's Social Services Department, <br />who noted that 13.3% of the City's population is at or <br />below poverty level, 8.1% of whom receive food stamps; <br />and, also, described the role of the Social Services <br />Department in providing coordination between and among <br />the agencies mentioned hereinabove, whose resources <br />and efforts assure that the needs of those citizens <br />who require help are being met. <br /> <br />Mrs. Mabelle S. King, Director of the City's Department of Social Services, who will <br /> <br />retire as of December 31, 1984, appeared before Council and, after describing some of <br /> <br />the services provided by her department as well as the dedication of her employees <br /> <br />toward helping the needy citizens, expressed appreciation for the opportunity of <br /> <br />serving the City and its citizens as well as of the support of her board members and <br /> <br />that of City Council. In recognition of Mrs. King's service, Mayor Cole presented-- <br /> <br />on behalf of the City--a plaque and "retirement" token to Mrs. King and, in addition, <br /> <br />Council unanimously adopted the following resolution commending Mrs. King and wishing <br /> <br />for her good health and an enjoyable retirement: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Mrs. Mabelle S. King, for whom her fellow-workers and <br />associates have the highest regard, will be retiring as Director <br />of the City's Social Services Department as of December 31, 1984; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Mrs. King's outstanding record of service to the City <br />includes the following: <br /> <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />School Crossing Guard <br />September 1, 1963 through December 31, 1964 <br /> <br />SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />Social Worker <br />February 1, 1970 through January 31, 1972 <br /> <br />Day Care Center Supervisor <br />February 1, 1972 through July 31, 1973 <br />
