<br />~80 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 11, 1984 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, December 11, 1984, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., <br /> <br />William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; Eliza H. Severt, Vice-Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; L. D. Oakes; <br /> <br />and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />After a moment of silent prayer in memory of Mr. L. E. Burnette, the City's Prison Farm <br /> <br />Superintendent who died recently, and in memory of Robert Kent Marks, Jr., age 17, who <br /> <br />was killed December 7th in an automobile accident, followed by the invocation and Mayor <br /> <br />Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held November 27, 1984, subject to the changing from $300,000.00 to $500,000.00 <br /> <br />the amount*to be transferred*annually (for eight successive years) to a new Electric <br /> <br />Fund Capital Reserve account under "Alternative A" of the wastewater treatment facil- <br /> <br />ities financing plan approved by Council. <br /> <br />At the invitation of Council, the following representatives of various local non-profit <br /> <br />agencies appeared before Council and apprised Council of the services being provided by <br /> <br />the respective agencies to local citizens in need, particularly with regard to food and <br /> <br />meals being made available to such citizens, with the consensus among these agencies <br /> <br />being that, so long as funding is forthcoming, no citizen "will go hungry": <br /> <br />1. Mr. Bill Rittenhouse, Executive Director of West <br />Piedmont Human Resources, Inc.; <br /> <br />2. Mrs. Sarah Kent, Executive Director of Piedmont <br />Seniors of Virginia, Planning District 12; <br /> <br />3. Mrs. Pat Sandmeyer, Meals Program Coordinator for <br />the Pittsylvania County Community Action Agency; <br /> <br />4. Captain Kenneth Batts, of the local Salvation Army <br />unit; <br /> <br />5. Mr. Kevin Laine, on behalf of the local Christmas <br />Cheer organization; <br /> <br />* By Council directive, this should read "...amount recommended to be transferred <br />(by future Councils)....." <br />
