<br />78 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 27, 1984 <br /> <br />Council unanimously adopted the following resolution in commendation of the Martinsville- <br /> <br />Henry County Rescue Squad: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad, an organization <br />composed entirely of volunteer members, has provided and continues to <br />provide outstanding emergency medical service to our community at no <br />direct cost to any citizen; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, through its initiative and efforts, coupled with public sup- <br />port, this organization is able to own and maintain modern emergency <br />equipment staffed by personnel whose sole purpose, through dedication <br />and many hours of extensive and on-going training, is to provide the <br />best in emergency medical care services in time of need; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as one example of such dedication and training, this group <br />recently won first place in a state-wide Emergency Medical Technician <br />team competition, in which were entered 175 teams; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled, that it does hereby commend and con- <br />gratulate the Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad's Emergency <br />Medical Technician team upon its having been adjudged the best in the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that it hereby acknowledges <br />with appreciation the tremendous public service this Rescue Squad has <br />rendered--and continues to render--the entire community. <br /> <br />After requesting the City administration to "put together" a plan for an alternative <br /> <br />exit for the City's West End area, Mayor Cole asked that representatives of the City's <br /> <br />Social Services Department, the Piedmont Seniors of Virginia, and the local Salvation <br /> <br />Army unit be invited to Council's forthcoming December 11th meeting to inform Council <br /> <br />as to whether basic needs of the citizens are being met (i.e., food, clothing, shelter, <br /> <br />etc.). <br /> <br />In response to Councilman Williams' query regarding the status and/or potential for <br /> <br />development of the Dana Baldwin Memorial Park, Assistant City Manager-Public Works <br /> <br />Director George W. Brown indicated that portions of the land-filled area of this park, <br /> <br />once the decomposition process is completed, will be usable. <br />
