<br />4~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 13, 1984 <br /> <br />.-. <br /> <br />training as well as plans for entering international competition in August of 1985. <br /> <br />Meanwhile, Council directed its Clerk to prepare a draft of a resolution, for pre- <br /> <br />sentation to Council at its forthcoming November 27th meeting and for adoption, for- <br /> <br />mally and officially recognizing and commending this group for its achievements and <br /> <br />public service. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded (and by a vote of three-to-one, Councilman Williams voting <br /> <br />.-. <br /> <br />"Nay" and Mayor Cole abstaining), Council adopted the following ordinance (as intro- <br /> <br />duced at Council's regular October 23rd meeting) amending Sections 22-62 and 22-69 of, <br /> <br />and adding Section 22-70 to, the City Code which pertain to driver permits for the <br /> <br />operation of taxicabs and/or for-hire cars: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular session on November 13, 1984, that Chapter 22, Vehicles for Hire, <br />of the Martinsville City Code, Section 22-62, Applicant's Criminal and <br />Driving Record, and Section 22-69, Revocation or Suspension, be amended <br />and Section 22-70, Petition to the City Manager, be added to read as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 22-62. Applicant's Criminal and Driving Record. <br /> <br />No person shall be granted a permit under this division who, (a) <br />within the ten (10) years prior to the date of application has <br />been convicted of a felony, a crime of moral turpitude, or a <br />crime involving sexual misconduct; or (b) within the five (5) <br />years prior to the date of application has been convicted of <br />three (3) or more misdemeanors; or (c) within the two (2) years <br />prior to the date of application has been convicted of four (4) <br />or more traffic infractions other than traffic infractions <br />relating to the registration or parking of vehicles other than <br />taxicabs or for-hire cars; or (d) within the two (2) years prior <br />to the date of application has been convicted of driving or <br />operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. <br /> <br />Sec. 22-69. Revocation or Suspension. <br /> <br />A public vehicle driver's permit issued under this division may <br />be revoked or suspended by the chief of police for any of the <br />following causes: <br /> <br />(1) Failure to report any accident as required by law. <br /> <br />(2) Conviction of four (4) or more traffic infractions other <br />than traffic infractions relating to the registration or <br />parking of vehicles other than taxicabs or for-hire cars <br />during the two (2) year period next preceding the date of <br />any such revocation. <br />
