l50

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 9, 1984

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that the said David B. Worthy be,
and he hereby is, authorized to bring and conduct condemnation pro-
ceedings to acquire said land and easement in the name of and on behalf
of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, and as its Attorney to make oath
to the condemnation petition, all in accord with the statutes in this
Commonwealth and in such cases made and provided.

At the request of the Martinsville City School Board, Council unanimously agreed to

conduct a special meeting to receive a capital improvements requirements report pre-

pared by the School Board, with Council directing that such special meeting for this

purpose be conducted Tuesday, October 23, 1984, in the Council Chamber, City Hall,

beginning at 3:00 P.M.

Mayor Cole, noting the increasing numbers of citizens registering to vote, urged all

citizens to exercise their voting privileges at all times.

Mayor Cole also commended the local Jaycee organization for its sponsorship and con-

duct of the outstanding "Oktoberfest" on Saturday, October 6, 1984, and, in so doing,

invited representatives of this civic club to appear before Council for special

recognition.

At Mayor Cole's suggestion, Council directed the following:

A. That a letter expressing Council's congratulations be written to
the Martinsville Senior High School football team and coaching
staff upon this team's recent first victory over the team of
George Washington High School (Danville, Virginia) in many years;
and

B. That a letter expressing Council's concern and best wishes for a
speedy recovery be written to Assistant Fire Chief Frank L. Draper,
now hospitalized in Lynchburg General Hospital and hopefully
recovering from serious injuries recently sustained (in a motor
vehicle-pedestrian accident) in Lynchburg.

Mayor Cole then declared this meeting adjourned.

Clerk of Council
