<br />l50 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 9, 1984 <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that the said David B. Worthy be, <br />and he hereby is, authorized to bring and conduct condemnation pro- <br />ceedings to acquire said land and easement in the name of and on behalf <br />of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, and as its Attorney to make oath <br />to the condemnation petition, all in accord with the statutes in this <br />Commonwealth and in such cases made and provided. <br /> <br />At the request of the Martinsville City School Board, Council unanimously agreed to <br /> <br />conduct a special meeting to receive a capital improvements requirements report pre- <br /> <br />pared by the School Board, with Council directing that such special meeting for this <br /> <br />purpose be conducted Tuesday, October 23, 1984, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br /> <br />beginning at 3:00 P.M. <br /> <br />Mayor Cole, noting the increasing numbers of citizens registering to vote, urged all <br /> <br />citizens to exercise their voting privileges at all times. <br /> <br />Mayor Cole also commended the local Jaycee organization for its sponsorship and con- <br /> <br />duct of the outstanding "Oktoberfest" on Saturday, October 6, 1984, and, in so doing, <br /> <br />invited representatives of this civic club to appear before Council for special <br /> <br />recognition. <br /> <br />At Mayor Cole's suggestion, Council directed the following: <br /> <br />A. That a letter expressing Council's congratulations be written to <br />the Martinsville Senior High School football team and coaching <br />staff upon this team's recent first victory over the team of <br />George Washington High School (Danville, Virginia) in many years; <br />and <br /> <br />B. That a letter expressing Council's concern and best wishes for a <br />speedy recovery be written to Assistant Fire Chief Frank L. Draper, <br />now hospitalized in Lynchburg General Hospital and hopefully <br />recovering from serious injuries recently sustained (in a motor <br />vehicle-pedestrian accident) in Lynchburg. <br /> <br />Mayor Cole then declared this meeting adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />Clerk of Council <br />
